September carries three Success Days, and they fall on the 3rd, the 16th and the 28th.
Success Day is 成日, the ninth officer in the twelve-day cycle used in the Chinese almanac. The name is literal. The officer marks the point in the cycle where something that has been building takes a form you can name and record. It is one of the more usable days in the set, which is why it appears so often in traditional date selection for openings, signings and formal beginnings.
What the three days look like
3rd September is a Geng Chen day, Yang Metal sitting on the Dragon, still inside the Monkey month.
16th September is a Gui Si day, Yin Water sitting on the Snake.
28th September is a Yi Si day, Yin Wood sitting on the Snake.
The spacing is worth a note. The officers normally repeat every twelve days, so the second Success Day would be expected on the 15th. White Dew arrives on 7 September and moves the month from Monkey to Rooster. The officer sequence is then recalculated against the new month branch, and the Success Day shifts from Dragon days to Snake days. That is why the run reads 3, 16, 28 rather than 3, 15, 27.
Anyone selecting dates from a printed calendar without tracking the solar term crossing tends to miss this one.
The strongest hours
All three dates share the same practical window, roughly 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
On 3 September, the Monkey hour from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM sits in the water frame with the Dragon, and the Rooster hour from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM combines directly with it. The Dog hour, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, clashes the day and is better left alone.
On 16 and 28 September, the Monkey hour from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM combines directly with the Snake, and the Rooster hour from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM sits in the metal frame with it. The Pig hour, 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, clashes the day.
If the whole window is not available, the hour matters less than actually doing the thing. A signature at 4:00 PM on a Success Day is worth more than a perfect hour you never used.
What these days support
Opening a business, launching a product or a service, signing agreements and contracts, registering a company, moving into a new home or office, enrolling in a course, formalising a partnership, and collecting on something you have been owed.
Success Day is traditionally read as unsuitable for litigation and disputes. The reasoning is consistent with the officer itself. The day helps a matter conclude, and a matter you push into court on a Success Day may conclude in a way you did not intend.
Who may want to sit one out
3rd September clashes the Dog. 16th and 28th September clash the Pig.
If your animal sign matches, the date may still work perfectly well for everybody else while running against you. Since there are three Success Days this month, moving your own commitment to one of the other two is usually the simpler answer.
The point of the officer
A Success Day does not manufacture a result. It shortens the distance between work already done and the moment that work becomes official.
If something in your year has been sitting at ninety percent since the summer, one of these three dates may be a reasonable place to close it.
